Default RE: In the doghouse...

Everyone else here is spilling their guts, so I guess it's my turn.

I retired a couple of years ago and my wife still works. I get up early and make sure I have coffee for her when she wakes up. I give her a kiss and send her off to work, then I start playing. Either I'm in the garage building, fixing, replacing or otherwise maintaining something. If I'm not in the garage, I'm out flying. That's Monday through Friday. Come Friday at 5:00 when she gets home, I pretty much quit anything that has to do with flying. From Friday evening to Monday morning, except for contests, we spend all our time together without any airplane stuff involved. It's not that she's ever asked me not to do the plane thing when she's home, I guess it's more I feel guilty doing the plane thing when she IS home. So that's my choice.

She could care less about my hobby/sport eventhough I talk to her about it, she listens, but I'm sure she's not that interested. I could have a new 35% in the garage working on it and when I ask her what she thinks about the new plane, she basically says "what new plane?" "Well, the one you had to step over to get into the house" I say. Oh, that one, that one's nice.

We both have our separate "play" accounts so she does what she likes to do with her $$$ and I do the same with mine. I love having someone who is sympathetic when I take one of my multi- thousand dollar airplanes into the ground. It kind of takes some of the pain away when she walks over and gives me a big hug and says something like "the next one will be even better".

I have a couple of friends at the field that ask me to order stuff on my credit card and shipped to my house so their wives don't find out about what they're buying. I can only tell them "that's a pretty sad way to live"..

I guess I have to say I enjoy the sport/hobby of flying AND I have a loving wife that encourages me to enjoy it too. I really feel for you guys that have to choose or be devious between one or the other. I just couldn't imagine it any other way. Wow!! I must be one lucky guy.
