It's a balancing act. Over the years my wife has noticed how much better my mood is if I'm spending a little time on my airplanes. I also live in a 230 year old house and have 2 young daughters (and my mom lives with us). Going out and flying every weekend would be out of the question. However, I enjoy building as much as flying. One of the great tings about building is you can spend very small amounts of time each day doing it. Sometimes just 15 minutes of sanding and glueing are all I need to feel I have accomplished something enjoyable.

Over the years, my wife has seen that my hobby is a positive thing and not a threat in any way, so now I can buy just about whatever I want with no comment. Just takes patience.

However, she still has absolutely no interest in the hobby.

Ditto here Commander Drake. Building, assembling, or tinkering is half the fun. And my wife recognizes the enjoyment I get out of the hobby. The only ground to tread lightly on is the money. I buy plenty of new stuff when I can. But I also like to buy things used, whenever I find a bargain. I show my wife how much I saved versus new. Being a big time coupon clipper, she respects that. And that's the way I like it - her only clipping coupons![&:]

Just bought RealFlight last night, my wife insisted. She's afraid to fly one of my planes on the cord until she's comfortable on the sim...What a woman!

I'm still young with this woman thing comparitively, but I have to agree with the "It's all about balance and not seeming to be addicted to the hobby even though we, and she, knows we are. " I don't even have my heli yet and I already know it's bad to even bring up the 'h' word. The fiance says she's afraid the rotors will slit her throat, sometimes I hope...

I am not married yet but my girl friends will follow me to the race track (rc cars) and flying field. They will follow me to the shops or sit at home watching me build my planes. Heck, they even buy me planes and radios and engines. Oh well ... I guess this is what you get when they realise you could be out there having beer and call girls. Also, I guess being able to cook them dinner and give them a good massage helps! Now ... I only hope they do not know about each other!!! Hehehee ...

woah...the old "you love your planes more than me" routine....that's a tough one. You're right about getting her a good Christmas present: I would recommend the new 14 channel Futaba (installing the servos without waking her up is a challenge, but there are plenty of wise fellas on here that can guide you through the finer points). Be careful not to run her on too lean a mixture and never stand in front of her while she's running.

"You love your airplane and flying more than you love me".

Hmm, I've heard that one before, both about my R/C flying AND my full scale flying. Oh well, come to think of it, my wife doesnt like anything else I do, either! MIght as well strive for perfection!

My wife knew I was into this hobby before we got married. She even convinced me to go from glow engines to sailplanes (quieter she said). Sold practically everthing in 1992 to buy a FM radio to use in a Viking. Got the Viking 95% done, she got me started to work on the basement. Just getting back into the hobby now. I take my daughter to the field, so that she can identify an airplane.

She was with me when we purchased the new futaba radio.

I agree use the internet at work for RC Universe. Actually, for anything period.

Can't sneak anything past her when paypal charges are on the visa from Ebay, and Tower Hobbies phones to confirm your order.

You just have to balance your time between her, the kids, work, aging parents and work.

And buy her a nice Christmas gift like I'm going out to do right now.

My first wife wouldn't let me do or buy squat. Everything had to be "practical". I got sox & underwear for Christmas. Luckily I caught her screwing around. If it wasn't for that I would still be miserable and wouldn't have gotten to know my present wife. My present wife proposed to me! She is great about my hobby. As long as the bills get paid I don't have to worry about packages showing up at the door. I had to litteraly hide packages from my first wife. We live in an apartment and she lets me do my building in the living room while we're watching tv together. She even found me a used, but very nice big, sturdy, flat, heavy, steel case table to build on. When I finish building a plane she smiles and says isn't that pretty, or nice job. Pretty isn't the word I'm really looking for, but its better than, *** is that another plane So I guess after reading some of these posts I'm very lucky, but I guess I knew that already The moral of my story is, if the wife complains all the time & hates your hobby, complains when you buy stuff, find her a boyfriend [sm=lol.gif]

Well the solution might be invented in Japan... for when you have to fly, this could help your significant others. Just sacrifice your shirt and some cologne... she won't even notice.

And if you can't convince her that flying is the best solution to a marraige and you do get stuck in the dog house, there's something for us men, too. Yep, the dog house will never be the same!

So I don't get in trouble, Kameo and Trane KK make the pillows (respectively). They sell for about US$90 and are made of foam with real cloth apparel.

BasinBum: I do all the cooking too. But I was a chef for 7 years, so for me its a lot easier to cook for 2 than 20-2000.
Also, I have to tell you guys this story. I was told just last month (end of Nov) that my position was being eliminated (due to State budget cuts), after being there for 6 years and my last day is Dec 31st, "Merry Christmas". Note: that's where I met my present wife (after I was divorced form the previous "wife" ) So word got around. Last week I got a trouble call, I supervise the IT Help Desk among other things, and was asked to come up and check the laptop & projector for a conference. I'm thinking I don't remember any conference scheduled in that room, must have been last minute. So I go up walk in the conference room ready to troubleshoot & SURPRISE, those goofy people had a surprise going away party for me. The room was filled with people. I have to tell ya I was completely blown away!!! I actually had to walk out for a minute or 2 because I just lost it. I had no idea these people appreciated me that much. One of the best experiences in my entire life, honestly. They ordered all my favorite food, mostly beef BUT to top it all off, they took up a collection for a gift for me & guess what they gave me. A $200.00 gift certificate for Tower Hobbies. Completely blown away again!!!! Ya know, I still get misty eyed about it even now. I just had no idea..... Anyway, about my previous story that's all true too, but don't take my moral seriously. I don't want to break up any couples Even though I still haven't found a new job: Merry Christmas, or whatever your religion celebrates. I may be broke next month, but life goes on........ and I have a new plane to build Best of all my wife is behind me & supporting me all the way

A guy at my club has a saying whenever this subject comes up. He says: One day my wife got fed up with the airplanes and told me, "I've had it! It's me or the airplanes!" He pauses for a moment and says, "Gee, I thought I'd miss her more."

My father is a full size pilot, and a RC nutta[8D]. Whenever he is about to be slung into the doghouse from mum, he takes her to the airport, takes off, and flys her to the State capital city, with AU$300 in his pocket, and he gets back in the good books! [>:]

All you guys with horses should come down to my field, there is a horse trail right behind/thru the field.
We get visitors every now and then, they're pretty nice, stay talk and watch for a while.
no girlfriend or wife for me yet,...

Jo, I gots horses. 10 of 'em! Also, the one club I belong to, the field is on a farmer's property. So when the family rides the horses,
all take-offs are banned until they are clear. No big deal really. You only have to wait about 5 minutes.
