So then I should ignore the instructions in the manual that state "..attach two steel balls with M2 hex nuts to a round servo arm at a distance of 10 to 11mm from the center of the servo and 10-15 degrees ahead of center of the servo"?

Trust me I don't mind follong your advise, I just want to be sure.

Also when I setup the control arm for the throttle, I had to program in reversing the servo in order for the servo arm to throw in the correct direction. According to the manual "As the throttle stick is moved from the low position to the high position, pushrod B moves backwards as the servo turns counter clockwise".

Is this correct? I could not get the arm to go in the correct direction according to the illustration unless I did this. See below:
