The shutting down the turbine is a Mick Reeves recommendation for the Reaper which has the same problem... the idea is to get it down safely, so it will live to fly again instead of floating into what every obstacle lies beyond your runway.
I'm familiar with the cub floating feeling (having a couple of them downstairs). In worse case scenarios I have planted it on the ground well above flying speed and let the drag from the wheels on the grass (no brakes) slow it down...fine for a taildragger, but if you do in on a trike gear, there is always a risk of bouncing the nose gear leading to a version of the dreaded Kangaroo hop.
