RE: Batteries/Motor for e-flite to hover
Gonna cost a bunch for a nice brushless setup, and as has been the case with me might come with lots of headaches to.
I prefer direct drive motors, just don’t much like gear drive units. Direct drive is quieter as well. Anyway the Axi 2212/34 or the HiMaxx 2812/0650 will both give you more than power to hover and pull out vertical fast. I run an 11” prop on my Eflite Ultimate. The 12” touches the ground too easily. I might even go to a 10” prop since anything short of a perfect harrier landing and the 11” touches the pavement as well. Since it doesn’t glide well dead sticks are not the smoothest landings with these little electrics. Dead stick with my glow planes is a piece of cake. I’d suggest a 25 amp ESC for either motor, and I use Thunder Power 3s 1320mah li-po batteries on my plane. If you go with lighter batteries, lower mah rating, they will be lighter so performance will be better, but flight times will be reduced. With 1320mah you should get 15-20 minutes, with 860’s I hear you’ll get about 10 minutes.
