RE: Decathlon choice
Definitly low temp, but what... Mine developed a split back by the horz stab... Not sure what caused it... Looked like the tail might have twisted a little... Anyway the split was about an inch and a half long... I tried patching it with yellow Ultracoate with the iron set as low as possible... What a b^*(h.... The color match was good but with the Iron hot enough to stick the Ultracote the stuff on the plane just "pruned" up... Initially I tried yellow Monocote but forget that... The temp required for that is way to high... The edges pf tje trim (stars) are coming up all the time and the seams on the bottom (black) are coming apart all the time... I finally gave up trying to stick it back down with the iron and started using CA on it which seems to be doing the job... Funny thing is the specs call for up to a .91 4s in it... I put a Saito .72 in mine and had to use a shoe horn to do it... No way is a .91 going in there without altering the mounts... I called Hobby People and all they could tell me was they had only tried smaller 2cysle engines.... On the positivie side It is a good looking plane, seems well built and flys great.... Takeoffs are pretty good... Not squirly like a cub.. Trick seems to be in applying power fast enough to get the tail of the ground quick.... Oh one other thing... The landing gear is way too soft... Mine bent just cranking the Saito over... I went to the hardware store and bought a stip of 1/8 inch aluminum, cut it to length and bolted it to the original... In effect doubling the thickness of the gear which has worked great so far and isn't that noticalb;e..... I have given some seriour thought to recovering it but man... all those stars etc are labor intensive..... Maybe one of these days.....
