Have you looked at my post on the TT Decathlon? The new version is an EXCELLENT airplane. Well, it looks great, haven't flown it yet!

I got my Global Super Decathlon, yesterday. I liked the looks of this plane over the Thunder Tiger, as far as the scale outline. Covering is nice and seems well built. Powering with a Magnum 61 four-stroke.

I did find my fiberglass cowling to be a little deformed, so i've email Global, to see if they will send me a new one.

I bought mine at chiefaircraft.com for $159.00 plus free shipping.

Then there is also the Seagull Decathlon... I have both the Global and the Seagull... Can't beat the Seagull for 139.00.... The Global is more expensive. It does not have the counter balances on the control surfaces, and the covering is not that great... Not quite sure what it is... If you try to patch it with Ultracote or Monocote it just "prunes" up... That and the edges don't stay down... The Seagull is much bigger, is covered with Ultracote and has the counter balances on the rudder and elevator giving it a more scale look... When I say scale however on both of them it is stand waaaay off scale...

Ya, your right about the counter balances, but I felt the Global SD had better outlines, as far as overall scale outline. For $159.00, you can't beat the price. I'll have to look at the covering tonight, it might be some low temp stuff!

Definitly low temp, but what... Mine developed a split back by the horz stab... Not sure what caused it... Looked like the tail might have twisted a little... Anyway the split was about an inch and a half long... I tried patching it with yellow Ultracoate with the iron set as low as possible... What a b^*(h.... The color match was good but with the Iron hot enough to stick the Ultracote the stuff on the plane just "pruned" up... Initially I tried yellow Monocote but forget that... The temp required for that is way to high... The edges pf tje trim (stars) are coming up all the time and the seams on the bottom (black) are coming apart all the time... I finally gave up trying to stick it back down with the iron and started using CA on it which seems to be doing the job... Funny thing is the specs call for up to a .91 4s in it... I put a Saito .72 in mine and had to use a shoe horn to do it... No way is a .91 going in there without altering the mounts... I called Hobby People and all they could tell me was they had only tried smaller 2cysle engines.... On the positivie side It is a good looking plane, seems well built and flys great.... Takeoffs are pretty good... Not squirly like a cub.. Trick seems to be in applying power fast enough to get the tail of the ground quick.... Oh one other thing... The landing gear is way too soft... Mine bent just cranking the Saito over... I went to the hardware store and bought a stip of 1/8 inch aluminum, cut it to length and bolted it to the original... In effect doubling the thickness of the gear which has worked great so far and isn't that noticalb;e..... I have given some seriour thought to recovering it but man... all those stars etc are labor intensive..... Maybe one of these days.....

Iron Cross, how was the cowling on yours? Mine, is curled at the back edges, not flat, so there's no flush fit. I'm sending it back and they said, they'd send me a new cowl.

On the landing gear being soft, your right. I'm goint to invest a little money and take my gear down to www.tntlandinggear.com and have them bend up a new gear, that will be stiffer. Also, I'm going to have them make it look more scale, with straight lines, no angles, and just a touch wider than the fuselage.

Power wise, I bought a Magnum 61 four banger and it will be inverted, as not to hack the cowling up.

I don't normally, buy "little" planes like this, but after working on my big H9 Cessna 182, I needed something simple and quick. Plus, I was going through withdrawl and needed some instant gratification, so I went "Internet" shopping.

I thought, I might try and "scale this up a bit. Either, going to try and "squish" the round wing struts, to get a flatter, more oval shape, or just buy some K&S aerodynamic tubing.

My cowl is good, no curl or anything.. The fit is pretty good... Good plan on the landing gear... Unfortunatly there is no one around here I know of to bend a new for me... I would like to scale one up too... Problem is the Global DC does not have the counter balances on the tail surfaces... To me this is a glaring omission... The .61 ought to be plenty of power for it... Gotta love those Magnum's... I have a Magnum .70 in my Seagull DC... Great running engine... I think your going to enjoy flying the Global DC... It flys really nice...

Hey Iron Cross, your in luck

you've made me change my mind on getting our of the house today. It's 15 F#$@ degrees today, and I was debating wether or not to go down to Toledo and drop the gear off.

Now here's the lucky part. www.tntlandinggear.com will build you a gear. I had them make up a single piece gear for the Lancair that Great Planes makes, instead of the stupid two piece that comes with the kit. So, give them a few weeks and they'll have one made. Once they make a gear, they add it to there stock.

How's the planes stance on the stock gear. Is it to short or to tall, to wide or to skinny?

Oh, here's the best part about going to Toledo, I get to fly down. The crappy part is that I have to pre-heat the airplane for an hour, because it 's so cold.

Email me with what you think on the gear.

Scale Landing Gear for Global Super Decathlon

Okay guys,

Just got back from Toledo and www.tntlandinggear.com. The guys at T-N-T are super nice and are making up a new gear for the Super Decathlon. They kept my fuselage and are using the same measurements as the stock gear. However, we are going to double the thickness of the material and get ride of the triangluar shape.

If you all are interested, then contact them at www.tntlandinggear.com

I am planning to purchase the model and install Magnum 52 XLS-2stroke engine with orginal pitts style muffler.Do you know anybody used same engine with both models ?

Is the same cover materials used for the both models ?

Is it possible to find the TTiger's spare parts separetely ?

Do the both planes have same flying characteristics ?

Thanks in advance
