You're right it doesn't hurt it... what it CAN do (and will, to varying degrees depending on how airtight everything is) is flood the engine. It won't flood it to the point (usually) that it is hard to re-start, but you don't wanna do this if it's your last run of the day.
At the end of the day remove the fuel line from the engine and after it cools, start it up with no line. This will run all that you can out of the engine. Add some after-run oil and you're on your way.
