RE: Graupner J-3 piper cub??
Cubs are not usually good trainers. I haven't flown a Graupner Cub, but it looks reasonably scale-like -- which is not a good thing for a beginner. Scale Cubs are difficult to handle on the ground, on take-off, and occasionally in flight. Many Cub models exhibit adverse yaw & little in the way of auto recovery.
They look great & are great fun to fly -- if you have adequate experience.
For a first model I suggest that you acquire a standard .40 size trainer -- there are a ton of them out there & virtually all of them will do the job.
----Then buy the Cub.
