Hello, I am a newbie to RC.I was thinking of getting the Graupner J-3 piper cub.The one that is all built and ready to fly.All most any way.Has any one had any time on this plane.Would you recommend this for a beginner?. Thanks --- Charlie

Cubs are not usually good trainers. I haven't flown a Graupner Cub, but it looks reasonably scale-like -- which is not a good thing for a beginner. Scale Cubs are difficult to handle on the ground, on take-off, and occasionally in flight. Many Cub models exhibit adverse yaw & little in the way of auto recovery.
They look great & are great fun to fly -- if you have adequate experience.
For a first model I suggest that you acquire a standard .40 size trainer -- there are a ton of them out there & virtually all of them will do the job.
----Then buy the Cub.

wise advise you have been given. the cub and in general any "true to scale" aircraft are a bit more touchy to fly. great fun and look awsome but not for the first timer. my suggestions would be to get the hobbico nextstar or the rcm trainer 40 with an os 46 ax both are excellent trainers. but of course there are many many trainers available the avistar would be another good one.
