I've flown without a speed control. Built a speed 400 6V 5.5X3 prop powered by 5 1.2v nicad 700mah cells. Airframe and wing sander/shaped out of white styrofoam building boards - don't it's a mess in shanding/shaping.
Worked fine. Two channel for rudder/elevator and 5 cell pack. Turn on the battery switch both the motor and radio worked. Flew 'full throttle' for almost 12 minutes and still running and the radio working fine.... it would land. Of course the prop came to a stop -grass landing, and the motor would stall, no problem the amperage produced was so low the motor wasn't even warmed.
Flew it untill I got tired of the design - or more likely bought another speed control..
