To answer your question, Yes. The G3 is your best choice. It has two planes excellent for 3d which are the Yak-54 and the E3D. It took me a few days to get the hang of the Yak, but I was finally able to hover it inches away from the ground. I then bought a Magic 3D with a Magnum 52 and I was hovering just like in the sim.

A simulator is the best RC tool available....my 2 cents.
