The preferable mount for mounting a spring air nose gear is to have the gear retract forward so the air will assist in gear down locking instead of possibly hindering it. Avonds uses spring air on birds that have forward retracting gear and Robart on gear that retract to the rear as much stronger extension force can be realized from the air cylinder vs spring pressure.
