Default Re: Get More Power out of Engine!!!

You all are going to think I'm crazy but...
What if you were to put (like a muscle car's BLOWER) on an airplanes carb.

Its been done. The OS supercharged 120 four stroke is one example. It would do what you want, but the gain may not be worth the weight penalty. Also, where would you find one to fit a model engine?

What if I came up with an idea to have a bigger carb intake (on a car: throttle body intake).

That would probably work. I have read however, that you can actually go too big on the throat diameter - ie the throat is so big that airflow through the carb is not fast enough to properly draw fuel.

What if I put a plate on the back of the carb intake so that air would be directed into carb.

A ram air intake. Might work, but I'd bet that the gains would be minimal. Also the ram effect may be much greater in flight requiring an extra rich ground setting.

If you really want more power, the simplest ways to do it are:

1. more nitro
or
2. improved exhaust, ie. a tuned muffler (performance specialties etc) or tuned pipe.

Oh, and make sure you are running a prop that lets the engine spin up into its powerband (ie. around 14k-16k on many .40 size engines)
