The U-Can-Do as mentioned is more a 3d plane than pattern it flies ok but I (personally) do not like the "blunt nose" appearance.
There are several nice planes for entry level pattern or pattern/sport/3d including:

Venus .40 (tower hobbies)
Skylark (www.hobby-lobby.com) I have this one and its a sweet flier
Excelleron 50 (www.hobbypeople.net)
Javelin (www.cermark.com)
Goldberg Matrix 50 (towerhobbies) same price as the u-can-do
Imagine 50 (thunder tiger) this one is NIB summer project

So take yout pick
