I am just getting back into the R/C hobby after a 20 year hiatus. I flew for about 5 years before and was a competent pilot at that time. Fast forward to today and I would like to get re-involved with Pattern and 3-D type flying. I am looking at the U-Can -Do 46 arf for my re-introduction plane. It seems that for the money, it would be a great way to go. Does anyone have any suggestions, pro's or con's about the aircraft?
I will probably buy the OS 50 for it to keep the 3-D capabilitys up.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

Take a look at the Excelleron 50, from, I believe Hobby People. The plane is well made and I have been told that it would make a good
entery level pattern plane. I have one with a Saito 72 and it performs all that I can do and much more.

I have a UCD 46 and it's a fun 'sport' airplane...more so 3D than pattern. I'm flying it with an OS 46 and it flys fine...would be better with the 50, but i had the 46 so that's what's in it. The 50 is identical in size so it would be an easy swap. It would do 3D better with the 50, as the 46 is just enough to hold it in a hover...barely...briefly....the thick wing lets it slow to a crawl for landings...keep the throws tame to start and increase them as you get used to the plane, if so I think you'll find this a nice plane to get back into the swing of things with. Welcome back! [8D]
...ps...don't ask about 'flippty flopp 1'...

Sean, thanks for the info. Yeah, I can get that package from Tower with the 46 but the 50 is only another $30, I think that it would probably be worth another $30 to get that little bit more punch. I like the pilot in the plane, pretty cool looking.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer back guys, I looked at that Excelleron, I like the line of the UCD a little better. that Excelleron kind of reminds me of a YAK. But it looks like it would be quite a machine as well.

The U-Can-Do as mentioned is more a 3d plane than pattern it flies ok but I (personally) do not like the "blunt nose" appearance.
There are several nice planes for entry level pattern or pattern/sport/3d including:
Venus .40 (tower hobbies)
Skylark (www.hobby-lobby.com) I have this one and its a sweet flier
Excelleron 50 (www.hobbypeople.net)
Javelin (www.cermark.com)
Goldberg Matrix 50 (towerhobbies) same price as the u-can-do
Imagine 50 (thunder tiger) this one is NIB
summer project
So take yout pick

Liberator,
I was out of the hobby for about 12 years and flew for 8. When I got back into the hobby thats what I started with. I put a Super Tigre .51 on the business end and it just wasn't enough to truely fly the plane the way it was intended to fly. I to flew patteren planes and have since got ahold of an old "Corvette" pattern plane with a 73" wing span and I put a new OS.61 with a Mac pipe up front. Haven't flown it yet but sure looks good. I also have a ModelTech Magic Extra with an OS .50 SX. I just bought my first profile plane and a Saito .82 cause I want to see what all the fuse is about. Wecome back to the hobby. You'll enjoy it more now than you did, at least I did
