Good luck!! This hobby is well worth the time and effort it takes to get started. I am still learning and it's just getting to be lots of fun. There are many good starter kits, but the one you chose will depend largely on your budget.
Find the Canadian equivalent of the AMA and go to a field, there is likely one in your area or within a short driving distance. Many clubs will allow you to try for free. If you find a club you like in your area, join it and ask the advice of the club members. They will be experienced in the local area with regard to availability, local knowledge and familiarity with different planes and radios.
Most clubs offer instruction for free. Do not try to fly a glow-powered plane without an instructor. You could seriously injure yourself or someone else. There are some inexpensive park flyers, but even then you should not try to fly without an experienced person to help you.
