I read about the carbon gear also but I think the reason most wanted them was to avoid the bending of the aluminum gear and having to straighten them after hard landings. I would also assume that most people think the carbon gear would be lighter too. I'll try and to keep all my landings on the greasy side....lol and if I do bend them it's for sure I'll straighten them out many times before I spend 70 bucks for carbon gear....NO WAY
The carbon gear is lighter, but the problem aside from the expense, is that with enough hard landings, it will delaminate.
A friend of mine has made a few with chop fiberglass and it is not as light as that of carbon, but about half the weight of aluminum and it doesn't laminate. I might try it if they will make one for me.
