I don't think there is anything wrong with this engine. Mis-information has made them cheap to buy and I am glad for that as I bought two. They are very underrated and do not like to run lean. I have had no problems with mine and know of several others that are very happy with theirs.
They are fuel hogs at full throttle but back of just a bit and they are not too bad.

Having said that I have 8 gassers,
and have chosen the BME 50 for 'Patty".
I like the simplicity of the gas engines, and the fact you do not have the oil mess to clean off your plane. You need less support equipment and best of all the reliability of the gas engine is a big plus.
