To put in my .02 cents on the original question here, I would have to say that the raising and falling prices is just their way to control the limits of Planes they are able to manufacture at any one time. Since they are a small Comany I would imagine that they have to moderate themselves so as not to get in over their heads, and try to avoid a situation where they might not be able to fill orders quick enough. In my opinion their Prices are very reasonable, and the fluctuations between $150-$170 is not really much varience compared to other Distributors varying prices. I have ordered many things through Tower Hobbies only to see that a week later the price has dropped, or they have just posted a new coupon that could have saved me a few bucks the week before. I guess it is just a timing thing, and I imagine that Tower does this for the same reason as VF. If they have an overstock of something, they offer a coupon for it. If something is selling like hot cakes, then more than likely you are not going to catch much of a discount.
I would also like to make a another point about wait order times. In my opinion some of the wait time may be created by Customs. All incomming and outgoing packages must go through Customs. If you read on the United States Postal Service website there is a new warning posted there about sending and recieving packages from Canada. It says that due to new tightened security measures between the U.S and Canada that Packages can actually get held up in Customs for up to weeks at a time. I am not saying that this is always why People experience long wait times. I am just saying that there is also this element involved in the shipping process between the U.S and Canada.
CK,
If the order is stuck at customs then I would fully understand. But I do not think this is the case since they would have answered my request for status with a shipment tracking number. Nothing from them so far.
As for prices fluctuating, I can see Tower doing this to compete with Hobby People, Quantum, and many other on-line stores. VF has a total of 4 products and supposedly as some of you stated (no true competition, which I disagree). The difference of $20 every couple of months just doesn't make common sense.
