The servos are fine; virtually all futaba/hitech/jr newer than cca. 1990 are compatible with each other. What matters is to match the TX with the RX; futaba and hitech are interchangeable; jr and (I think) airtronics are interchangeable, but incompatible with the other two.

Manufacturers of equipment suitable for both standards specify which type is a particular device. E.g. GWS puts on their RX a small sticker showing either a "F" (futaba/hitech compatible) or a "J" (JR compatible).

You did not say what type is your RX (I don't know what universal receiver means). Anyway, if it's incompatible with the TX, it's cheaper to buy a GWS RX for your futaba transmitter.
