Default Ultra R/C katana elevator too snappy- help?

Flew my Ultra R/C katana for the first time the other day. It flies great, although the elevator is very, very snappy. Even with very low rates on, it tends to snap to the right. In fact, I almost lost the plane while pulling out of a spin because it snap rolled while pulling out of the dive.

The plane balances at the recommended CG, so I don't think its tail heavy.
The only thing I can think of is there is too much play in the elevator controls using the stock wooden dowl and Y wire. I thought of maybe somehow mounting two elevator servos in the rear of the fuse to do away with the stock elevator setup.

I am wondering if anyone has had experience with their Ultra Katana and would like to offer suggestions.
