Default RE: Difference between Gear and Direct Drive?

A geared tail is more efficient than a direct drive setup.
At the low air speed that these props operate (usually close to zero) a large prop turning at lower RPM is more efficient than a smaller prop turning at higher RPM.
So a DD prop will reduce your flight time by a bit.
A DD setup typically uses a more robust motor that can handle higher voltage, so the DD setup usually does not burn out as often.
