Hey guys,
The subject line was the question. I am tossing around the idea of micro sized helicopters (GWS Dragonfly) and hear that gear drive is better for beginners. Is this true? Plus if you could give a brief explanation of Gear Drive vs. Direct Drive, that would be very helpful as well.
Thanx in advance.

A geared tail is more efficient than a direct drive setup.
At the low air speed that these props operate (usually close to zero) a large prop turning at lower RPM is more efficient than a smaller prop turning at higher RPM.
So a DD prop will reduce your flight time by a bit.
A DD setup typically uses a more robust motor that can handle higher voltage, so the DD setup usually does not burn out as often.
