Default RE: Tail touch hovering technique

ORIGINAL: spratrbo

one other thing to think about if you do indeed get it almost touching... dpeending on the situation if you are about to loose it within inches of the ground you might be better off cutting the throttle than rather saving it and then it snapping crazy and it's crumpled. most planes can handle a 1-3 inch fall on the tail with little to no damage done if on grass. But fly out and catch a wing and you are toast.

well, this sounds as a certain crash, but definetly if u r close to ground, its better to cutt power and crash instead of crasing at full power...
but if everytime u wanna tail touch, u are certain its gonna crash, then maybe is not the best to tail touch.

i rearly tail touch my planes, but everytime i try to hold it at about 10 inches of the ground or so..
i crashed a total of 3 times doing tail touch or hovering within 5 inches of the ground, and everytime i crashed it, it was at full power trying to saved it, but my engine didnt speed up fast enought.. and not much damage happend to it, the only disadvantage of crashing at full power is a broken prop and maybe a crack firewall, but its always worth trying to save it...

thats why now i installed a 91 fx in my funtana 40, and it seems it just doesnt want to crash...
