did you do a mechanical adjustement to the rudder pushrod to stop any drifting in normal/rate mode?
you can use a small amount of trim/subtrim to get the last bit out if a 1/2 turn is too much, you do have to re center the gyro with the on/off of hh 3 times quickly after adding any trim. other than that, just always turn on the gyro in hh mode.
