One big issue is weight. If you're flying a trainer, you don't want to add that much weight to the plane. Other than that, this idea has been discussed many times, and I've yet to read about a successful .40 sized smoker--one that really puts out a great deal of smoke as compared to the work and cost involved, and the tradeoff in wing loading.
