Your're right about the bushing and cap erosion, it's hard to believe that a plastic bushing will wear out and aluminum cap! But it's true! The only way to alleviate it is by replacing the bushing every 4-5 races to eliminate the play (Once there is play, the plastic bushing will erode the cap).
