Default Covering methods

Hi everyone,

I am new to the hobby and am doing some research on model kits, building methods etc. My ultimate goal is to build a scale war bird, I don't know if I will start with a complete kit, or go with plans and get a kit cutter to make the parts. I have a few years of building balsa models, but I have never radio controlled one.

I am a little confused about the different covering methods that are available for balsa models. What is available, what is the best, how are each applied. Is there any information on-line that I can read about each method?

I do feel that the colors of MonoKote do not accurately reproduce the colors of a warbird, so to me painting is a better option. What should be put under the paint?

Thanks

Dave
