RE: Electric motor Sizes Needed??
Bob,
I was flying the PTGyro with the Norvel .074 here in Florida and during the winter months it had plenty of power. However, when the heat index gets over 100 I couldn't sustain flight. I replaced the .074 with a AXI 2808/16 and have more than enough power. The only dis-advantage is the torque from the outrunner motor. You have to apply power gradually as the torque can roll the gyro on takeoff. I have also purchased the AXI 2820/12 for the PT25 gyro that I don't have built yet. For comparison I mounted this motor on an airplane that I'm flyin with twin speed 400's. The AXI 2820/12 far outperforms the two speed 400's. I'm also using 2000 mah lipo batteries.
Hope that helps. I'm new at this electric stuff also.
