Personally, I'd be tempted to use metal mesh vs. nylon mesh. It can be bent to shape and won't sag down the road. I'd try to seat it from the inside of the cowl with a couple drops of epoxy or even some small screws.
Would 'ja believe I have not been able to find any metal mesh that will fit? Frustrating.
