It is easy to see if you really have a break in the antenna. Just take the case of the receiver and measure with an ohm meter to see if you have continuity between the land on the printed circuit board that is soldered to the antenna and the far end of the antenna. Gently tug on the antenna when making this measurement in case there is momentary contact at the break (if the break exists).
