Default RE: Curare 60 - Build

Hi
Thanx for the complements guys.

Apparently Hanno prettner revised his curare by scrapping the combined flap/spoiler to the separate flap and spoiler design as per the photo of the prettners below.

When I first built it I had the combined flap/spoiler but I trashed the wing in a crash so I built a new wing with the revised design also detailed on the plan (I now had enough channels on my new radio to drive it).

The original combined flap/spoiler worked well but I find the flap alone really does help with a glide on a dead stick without too much slowing down. It also acts as a combined elevator whereas the original couldnt. I believe the original flap/spoiler arrangement was only to counter the pitching up tendancy as the flap deployed. Modern radios can get round this problem by mixing in a bit of down.

Hanno used to deploy the spoiler when the flap reached full extent. Ive found this to be a liability on landing. As soon as the spoiler came up, the model just fell from the sky. I also tried to use them only for vertical downs but couldnt see any difference with or without. I tend to now just use the flaps and ignore the spoilers (the magic only uses flaps and no spoilers!).
