Getting teady to start assembling DP Ultimate 40
Thanks to all for the compliments on the trim. I'll try and answer all the questions in one post.
I am using a JR 8103 TX and JR 700 series RX with a standard switch harness and have no glitching issues. I run the same 6 volt 750mah AAA RX pack in an Extra I have, only with JR 811 digital servos. They seem to twitch a bit, but the Hitecs are solid in my Ultimate. A buddy of mine had the problem you are describing in a Giles he built, I'll ask him what he did to remedy the problem.
To mount the engine enclosed completely, I used the kit mounts and angled the engine a few degrees CCW on the head side. It sits rotated slightly crooked in the cowling, but it's not too offensive unless you look at it straight on. It all lines up correctly to the thrust lines. The plane required almost no trim when I first flew it, so thrust angles appear okay. The cooling fins are very close to the cowl and I actually cracked the paint a bit by pushing too hard on the cowl while putting a driver on the glow plug. I have since touched it up.
The tail wheel is actually a Klett (forgot to mention that in my first post). It's not super heavy and doesn't put a load on the rudder. Ground handling is excellent. Seems plenty durable.
The fuel draw seems just fine the way it is. I am not running a pump. Doesn't lean out in flight and idle is smooth and reliable. Of note, this engine is well broken in. I robbed it from another plane I have flown a heck of a lot this season.
