Yep, makes no differences where it is mounted physically, the gyro will detect movement all the same. Some pilots seem to think that the gyro needs to be moved as close to center of rotation axis (The main spindle) as possible, which is nothing but a huge myth and a plethora of misinformation.

Of course, common sense would dictate to keep the gyro away from engines and other electronic devices as much as is possible on a helicopter.
