When I bought the CC from Tower last year, it was on sale for 175 bucks. It came with the rs-540 sh td022613 motors installed with the higher reduction gear set installed. The boat ran slooow ! I installed the other unmarked motors the CC came with along with the lower reduction ratio gears. Much faster, but on the second run one of the motors caught fire ! Trash them junk motors ! I installed some stock e-Maxx titans [23t] at @ 20 bucks ea. and opened up the windshield and ducted the incoming airstream to the motors [ I'll post pix on rc/flix].
At that time I got the Storm and haven't ran the CC much since.
After reading your post I re-examined the CC motor to shaft clearance and you're right, not enough clearance for the available ready-made cooling coils; I'm not sure that the silicone jackets would fit any better, but now I've decided not to go to 2x7 cells until I can come up with better cooling, as the current setup runs fairly hot as it is. I beleive that a single direct drive 700sc with a jeti and 2x7 cells is the way to go. More work initially, but probably far less de-bugging later. Hand-fabbing the motor mount will be a chore, but after that hurdle the rest should be easy, such as shortening and supporting the shaft and finding the correct prop.
I ran the Storm this morning and it is hauling butt ! I run 2x7 cell 3300 mah sc sport paks from OE, 27.99 ea. !
If you need documentation on the CC, I think Megatech's website has an Adobe pdf. If unavailable I can scan & e-mail my documentation that came with the CC. If you want to focus on the Storm, I'll send the modding details that make mine handle & fly.

i bought mine from ebay, a N.J. hobby shop, when i received and got ready to put in water, every time i plugged in the first battery, it was wide open..tried everything. got down to pulling box out, looking over wiring, noticed part of it wired incorrectly. switched around and ran...not as fast as box said, but ok. thought that was weird. next was shaft housing and wires coming out of box was covered in clear silicone. thats when i tried to find pdf or some info. only thing mine came with was a thin operating instructions, that was all. no extra motors, just the smaller black gears, big ones installed in boat.
my boat # 6902, it appears there is a #6909 ? which one is CC 2 ? which comes with extra motors ? anyway, yes would like what ever you could scan would be wonderful. and post the pic on rcflix so i can review, sounds like a good fix
my twin storm 800 shold be hear in few days (from ebay also) hopfully no problems, but will want to upgrade it probably soon, so will listen to all tips on it too.
