Default caribbean cruiser

[X(]this may be a silly question, but why do i never see any talk about megatech's caribbean cruiser, is it a bad boat to hop up, seems ok to me. i can't seem to find any info or help with mine. i have notice little room in motor area.

i also have 4 other boats, all needing upgrade's (speed)
super hawaii
blade runner
villian IV
jet stream 800

i dont really have a clue about this hobby, all except i like rc boats and i have a good sized lake to run them in.
any and all suggestions would be welcome[:-]

Finally [!] another Caribbean Cruiser [CC] owner speaks up ! I've had the same thought ever since I got mine. Here's my impressions :

1: The stock motors are junk and fried immediately. I replaced mine with Titan E-maxx fan cooled motors, using the optional gears that came with the boat. I opened up [enlarged] the windshield and ducted the airflow to the motors.

2: The boat rips ! The motors get alittle hot [ @ 110 deg F ] but can handle this temp.

3: The boat handles like a slot car, goes fast and corners like it's on rails. The funny thing about this is that it handles so perfectly that
I prefer to run my evil-handling modified Twinstorm so I can experiment with mods to improve the speed and handling.

4: I intend to install a 700sc from OE with a Jeti600, configured for direct drive, to see what the CC can really do. The motor compartment has to be opened up to the second set of mounting rails [ which I think are there for the nitro version] and a mount has to be hand-fabricated.

I intend to start this project in the very near future, and I'll report the results. If there'se any CC owners out there I'd like to hear from you. With some modding, this can be a really cool boat

EXCELLENT !!!! i cant believe i got a reply, little less a good one. that why took so long to check back

i just pulled the two mtrs out of villian, having one heck of time getting them in (thinking, [:-]man, i hate to cut this boat up)
i like the boat, it just has no room to work, that and no one seems to do any upgrades.

in the mean time, i added another boat (funny you mentioned twin storm) i purchased twin storm 800, used. hopefully put on a prop only for now and leave this one together
as far as the others, trying to figure out which ones will be best and cost effective to hop up.

i will check back often to see how yours is going. you may have to explain in simple detail, sometimes im not sure if i know what im doing, like where you made your cuts, are you changing anything else ?

I haven't begun the Caribbean Cruiser project yet; I'm finalizing the "stage one " mods to the Twinstorm [ go to rcflix.com, register, logon, & check out the "storm pix]. To get more working space to install the motors in the CC, remove the battery tray first [you probably figured this out already]. Use blue loctite on the gearshafts & screws; you might also want to replace the skimpy cooling coils with a set with more winds, I also think the stock 42 x 1.6 prop causes the motors to work too hard, I'd replace it with a Graupner CF 42 x 1.4. The mechanical speed control should be replaced with something like a Jeti 600, I have one in the 'Storm & it works great. Go to Offshore Electrics for the parts; they're good people.

Before I go to a 700 motor with direct drive I'm considering modding the CC with the currently installed Titans, better cooling coils, Jeti 600, CF 42 x 1.4 prop and 2x 7-cells. I run the 'Storm with the Titans on 2x7 cells, separate cooling coils and fans for each motor and it rips !

Stay in touch.

already registered @ rcflix and checked out twin storm.....
box out, my trouble is getting past shaft housing and lining every thing up, not sure i like the way motors mount ? next problem is how can i tell what motors i have, sights have pictures of aqua torque motors, mine look plain with numbers RS-540SH TB021Z26 on sticker, as far as cooling, not much room for bigger coils with shaft housing so close to motors, are the silicone jackets ok from offshore, last time i looked out of stock, going to order props for CC and TS and 2 batteries, you say seven cells, which ones are best for $$.
you know, worst thing about CC, i cant find any exploded view doc or stuff like i can find on all the others.
you have already been more help since i have owned it than all other info.

till then,

When I bought the CC from Tower last year, it was on sale for 175 bucks. It came with the rs-540 sh td022613 motors installed with the higher reduction gear set installed. The boat ran slooow ! I installed the other unmarked motors the CC came with along with the lower reduction ratio gears. Much faster, but on the second run one of the motors caught fire ! Trash them junk motors ! I installed some stock e-Maxx titans [23t] at @ 20 bucks ea. and opened up the windshield and ducted the incoming airstream to the motors [ I'll post pix on rc/flix].
At that time I got the Storm and haven't ran the CC much since.
After reading your post I re-examined the CC motor to shaft clearance and you're right, not enough clearance for the available ready-made cooling coils; I'm not sure that the silicone jackets would fit any better, but now I've decided not to go to 2x7 cells until I can come up with better cooling, as the current setup runs fairly hot as it is. I beleive that a single direct drive 700sc with a jeti and 2x7 cells is the way to go. More work initially, but probably far less de-bugging later. Hand-fabbing the motor mount will be a chore, but after that hurdle the rest should be easy, such as shortening and supporting the shaft and finding the correct prop.

I ran the Storm this morning and it is hauling butt ! I run 2x7 cell 3300 mah sc sport paks from OE, 27.99 ea. !

If you need documentation on the CC, I think Megatech's website has an Adobe pdf. If unavailable I can scan & e-mail my documentation that came with the CC. If you want to focus on the Storm, I'll send the modding details that make mine handle & fly.

i bought mine from ebay, a N.J. hobby shop, when i received and got ready to put in water, every time i plugged in the first battery, it was wide open..tried everything. got down to pulling box out, looking over wiring, noticed part of it wired incorrectly. switched around and ran...not as fast as box said, but ok. thought that was weird. next was shaft housing and wires coming out of box was covered in clear silicone. thats when i tried to find pdf or some info. only thing mine came with was a thin operating instructions, that was all. no extra motors, just the smaller black gears, big ones installed in boat.
my boat # 6902, it appears there is a #6909 ? which one is CC 2 ? which comes with extra motors ? anyway, yes would like what ever you could scan would be wonderful. and post the pic on rcflix so i can review, sounds like a good fix
my twin storm 800 shold be hear in few days (from ebay also) hopfully no problems, but will want to upgrade it probably soon, so will listen to all tips on it too.

the other 4 boats i have apart will have to put on hold awhile....this can be expensive,,,but funn

for what i paid for all 6 boats i could have bought a real nice one, o'well, live and learn
and thanks for all the tips, info and such

boater buddy

At first, I wasn't very happy with this boat. Megatech talkes it up like it's something special. I bought it off ebay for maybe 30 bucks less than a new one would have cost. The first trip to the pond wasn't good. Max speed was under 10mph and I noticed a loud noise from the gears. Further inspection revealed a stripped drive gear. The seller was cool and gave me some money back to buy a new set of gears. It sat in my work shed for months and one day I decided to try some different gears since I couldn't understand why they would use a 4:1? gear ratio for what looked like stock motors. The Kyosho gears I had from my jetstream looked like they might work but I had to modify the motor mount slightly. I used the 2:1 gears and a pair of new master airscrew 19T motors in series with a 14V ESC and kyosho 2" prop and it runs very nice! Not very fast, about 15mph but the handling more than makes up for it's lack of speed! This boat handles any water conditions and turns like it's on rails. It's immune to waves that would toss my twinstorm around like an eco boat. The motors don't even get that warm and run time is about 15 min. with 3300's. Next trip out I'm putting on a 2.4" metal prop on. This might be overkill but I'll find out soon. Right now, I have the boat apart in pieces... I almost put in a graupner 700 but I think I'm going to leave it alone, I don't want to butcher this boat up too much.

Default Caribbean cruiser 2

Any info on this boat there is LITERALLY nothing out there... I only managed to find a few videos on YouTube and 1 forsale on eBay. She looks to have a bronze prop and upgraded metal pinion and spur gears. Haven't ran it yet since no batt or charger. Prob going to cut the garbage connector off and run a ec3 and a Lipo batt on the non marking twin 550s

Thanks. Hope to hear from somebody.
