I have experience with the Stihl 044 as a chain saw.

They are great and can be hopped up very easily.

I would loose the flywheel and go C&H ignition or use Gas & Alcohol and a glow plug to keep the weight down.

They respond well to a hollowed out muffler and a velocity stack
