Heres how i got him into it.
Well, he new i loved aviation, because i read alot of books, looked for lessons, and finally got to models). On christmas, i told him how much a whole RTF Glow Model set will cost. (Dummy me, i was thinking about the NExtstar). So it went electric. Paid 100$ less, had two flights and it was gone. When i crashed, i was in a worse situation than you. NOthing gets dad madder then seeing his investment go to trash. So then i knew i couldn't get anything. Now came the part that got me really involved on RCU. I started posting thread, replying threads, about 300 posts in total. I was telling stories about my flights on the electric adn what my situation was. Then god blessed me. J3FAN decided to donate his trainer to me. Of course, my parents thought it was a joke and it was a scam. I contacted him, spoke to him, and he decided to send me the trainer, but first, i needed something that took alot of courage, my parents permission. I know my parents would give it to me if they believed in it. So this was the moment of truth. Having the phone in my hand, and J3FAN on the other line, i gave the phone to dad so they could talk things out. Of course i left, but i was still secretly sitting behind the wall listening to the conversation. So it was decided, hell send me a plane. My parents liked the idea and they accepted. But here is the worst part. They thought he was going to send me his used trainer, instead J3FAN decided to buy me a RTF set from tower hobbies, 250$. My mom freaked. Why would someone buy a trainer! I understand sending a used plane, but a NEW one!? SO here came the tough decision. To call J3FAN saying the refuse, or keep going. I got a letter from JSfan the next day to my parents explaining the situation because i knew my parents never believed me. The felt touched and said its ok. Thats how i got it! I got the plane, and as soon as i wrote it, i written a letter, had my parents sign it and send him a big thank-you. From then on, i took my father to the field after i soloed, because until then he just dropped me off and left. So i learned and after a a while. HE wanted to stay because he couldn't believe that the plane is in one piece. IT was a beautiful day and this was the flight that i counted on the most. To show my parents i could fly. I DID IT! I proved them right. My dad loved the hobby from then on. Not love, as in, bought one for himself and me and started building. HE just enjoys going out with me, do a little business over the cell phone a t the field, and watch me. But here is the best part. When i was looking through a magazine, i was reading an article about a kit B-25 Mitchell. HE told me if he and i would want to build one, i was in love with the idea. That was 1/2 a year ago. And yet still, we didnt order a kit, he just keeps coming with mer to the field to watch me. I reminded him a few times, but he just kinda ignores it. And being 16 years old, i know when not to ask parents for something. SO its most of the time like that. But there is some good news. My parents left for the week on a business trip and you know what that means. Lots of cash to feed yourself. Translation: Buy a massive pizza for 12 $ and eat one slice a day along with school food, but i have an account at school which doesn't count. SO if i survive, a might invest in a new kit. What fun would that be. So what i would recommend, is post up the situation your in on the Pay-It-Forward thread and maybe somebody with a trainer might donate you one as one was to me. IF you wait long enough, and if i don't crash, ill donate you mine. RTF. I just got to build my kit, have a few flights with it, and get bored with the trainer, and donate it. Im not going to sell it because thats just horrible. If someone donates you something, you have to give back. Nothing is for free.
See ya
Michal
If I remember correctly you and J3FAN got together in my PIF thread and that's how you got started. So keeping with the spirit of that thread I would love for you to pass on the plane that J3FAN gave to you. That's of course is your choice it's your plane but I think it would make a great story myself.
So Michal, good going on promising to donate the plane, please keep us all informed in the PIF thread if that is what you decide to do and some really great advice to chessmasterx to boot
Have you heard from J3FAN since his wife passed on. The last I heard was he was giving up on the hobby and I have not heard/seen him since???
