exeter,
I am not using a DA, using taurus 52 which is only 3 onces heavier, so it should still apply to the DA. I emailed Wayne about all of this. Here's my question & his answers:
"Is the location forward more for balance, cooling, or prop efficiency? I guess my real question is how much of it is for prop efficiency? I calculated what the difference would be between the DA and 3W and it's almost an inch when using the provided hardwood standoffs.
'It is for all three but in my opinion in this order of importance. Prop eficiency most important, balance second and cooling not so important if it would help at all.'"
"As far as how far to locate the engine forward, I would mount the engine so the engine hub ( the back plate of the spinner) is approximately 1-1/4 inches in front of the front of the engine cowling."
Hope that helps clear out some of the mud.
