RE: CMpro Super Chipmunk
I flew the CM quite a bit yesterday but ended my day with a couple landings where the gear collapsed to the TE causing it to nose over. As On_Final stated in his post on 9-1:
"- Watch out for the landing gear blocks in the wing. I have to change mine after a few landings. The wood was rather soft and brittle. Also, the hole for the landing gear was drilled too close to the edge. If you dont want to replace the blocks, then reinforce it."
I tried reenforcing with CA and Epoxy hits but no luck. the hole where the gear goes in got soft after a bunch of touch-and goes until it move backward.
I need to do something to reenforce this area and was wondering EXACTLY HOW to do this most efficiently without adding too much weight.
Can someone help me with a suggestion? I was going to add a piece of wood about 1 inch in width and about an inch longer than the gear assembly itself. Epoxy this to the wing assembly after peeling back the covering.
Does this sound right or are there better ideas??
