Default CMpro Super Chipmunk

Hi Guys,
Had look in the forums but could not find any posts on my query. Has anyone tried the CMpro Super Chipmunk??? Looks quite nice just wondering if anyone can comment on build quality and flight performance please.

Ask or PM one of the guys here, he is called SJN, he has one. You can see it in the LET'S SEE THOSE ARFs thread that is somewhere here.

Hi Lou,I've just come across your post .I have started building my CM Pro SC,and I was wondering if you bought one.If you have ,what's she like to fly?.I'm fitting an OS .52 4st in mine.Should be enough power as she seems to be not very heavy, and was built more for aerobatics than speed.
Cheers,
Fearless Fly,(Adelaide)

I purchased a Super Chipmunk .40 ARF from Jet-Hobbies a few weeks ago and plan on beginning the build process in the next day or so. I plan on posting pics and info as I build it if you're interested but I want to make sure we're talking about the same plane.

Go to http://www.jet-hobbies.com/jh/index....batic_airplane and take a look at the Super Chipmunk listed there. I bought mine on ebay for much less than the listed price.

I have a 40 size CM Pro Super Chipmunk that I have been flying for a couple years now. Been quite a while since I assembled the thing but I will try to recall.

- Watch out for the landing gear blocks in the wing. I have to change mine after a few landings. The wood was rather soft and brittle. Also, the hole for the landing gear was drilled too close to the edge. If you dont want to replace the blocks, then reinforce it.

- The red white and blue covering are okay but the black ones peeled after a while no matter what I did. I eventually replaced it with monocote.

- you might want to reinforce the wood where you intstall the blind nuts for the wing hold down bolts. Recently, when I tried to take off the bolt, the blind nut cut into the wood and the result was a big hole right throught the wood and the fiberglass.

The plane flies okay and lands like a trainer. Lovely sight when you land on the mains and watch the tail stay up until you slow way down.

Nice snaps and loops but rolls are not axial. I have a Saito 56 on mine and cant get much vertical and also I cant hold a knife edge for long. Then again, it might be the pilot and not the plane.

On_Final -- Thanks for the info, I've already cataloged it for reference. I also have a H9 F4U Corsair 60 ARF that I've yet to have the courage to break out but I spent a tremendous amount of time reading the 1300+ posts here on RCU and learned a tremendous amount from the more experienced Corsair builders. I built a reference file after distilling all the information gathered which will prove invaluable during my build - whenever that may be ( ihave this plane and a Staudacher 300 ahead of the Corsair!).

I hope to be able to pass along similar "goodies" as I build the Super Chipmunk over the next few weeks or so as time allows for others to learn from the likes of what you've posted above. Thanks again.

Anyone else?

Mine is finished and I got a 20 second flight test.

Took off and did my usual roll.
I know rather ballsy on a test flight!

Turned downwind and the plane was being hit.
It rolled left then right woopsee
time to land!
I chopped the engine and landed

No harm to the plane.

Single conversion does not work at my friends field.

I changed out the wheels installed larger Robarts.

I made a internal pushrod and a center elevator joiner for mine.
I also made mine with pull/pull rudder.

In the 20 seconds I flew it it was good.
I used a OS 46 SF engine and a slimline compact pitts muffler.

Graupner 12/5 two blade prop. Gobs of power so far.

Looks like it is going to be a keeper now that I have a new receiver in it.

I opted for no wheel pants looks fine.

Av8r4aa,

Congratulations on a sucessful maiden. (Anytime you get your plane back in one piece on a maiden is sucessful!)

I swapped my wheels for a larger sized sullivan as well. No nose over since then. I fly without pants as well. (I mean the plane!)

I've completed the build on my Munk. Pics below. I reinforced the firewall with 4oz glass although I think this is overkill. Hitec HS-325HB servos with a Futaba PAR-25 receiver, basic 4 channel radio. I put an OS .46 FXi swinging a 11x7 wood prop. Notice the mini antenna I put on the top of the fuselage. Already performed a range check and it works great.

This is my first ARF build from the box. As with everything you build yourself, I know where the oopsie stuff is but I don't think they're that noticeable.

I'm hoping to get a maiden flight in the next few days. I think I'll get a more experienced buddy to take her up for the first time.

Wish me luck.

I flew the CM quite a bit yesterday but ended my day with a couple landings where the gear collapsed to the TE causing it to nose over. As On_Final stated in his post on 9-1:

"- Watch out for the landing gear blocks in the wing. I have to change mine after a few landings. The wood was rather soft and brittle. Also, the hole for the landing gear was drilled too close to the edge. If you dont want to replace the blocks, then reinforce it."

I tried reenforcing with CA and Epoxy hits but no luck. the hole where the gear goes in got soft after a bunch of touch-and goes until it move backward.

I need to do something to reenforce this area and was wondering EXACTLY HOW to do this most efficiently without adding too much weight.

Can someone help me with a suggestion? I was going to add a piece of wood about 1 inch in width and about an inch longer than the gear assembly itself. Epoxy this to the wing assembly after peeling back the covering.

Does this sound right or are there better ideas??
