Blown Engine NT 16

I have blown the NT 16 on my ATX FunFactor. The piston has become very hard to slyde toward the top of the sleeve. The connecting rod broke towards the to and damaged the cylinder. The flywheel either became loose or could it have coused this? I am fairly new to this and I have not tracked the temperature well, can overheating couse this as well?
