RE: DA Engine Mods
I have a Sala tuned/modified DA150. I had my DA150 in a Composite-ARF 3.0m Extra 300, first on mufflers, later on KS1090 style pipes. I thought my DA150 ran well in this Extra, noticeably better on the pipes than on the mufflers. My Extra was light, probably 38 lbs max, and it was a very sleek airframe, and I felt I had very good power. I ran the engine in per instructions, something in the order of 10-15 gallons of 33:1 Lawnboy Ashless mix. Unfortunately I lost the Extra to PCM lock out in January of this year. I sent the engine to DA for a check, and I bought a new ignition. I then had Xipp do his magic to my engine, and I put it in a TOC1 40% Yak54 on KS cans. The engine is now very noticeably smoother. It will idle about 300 rpm lower, and is very throttle responsive. The most noticeable difference is the lack of vibrations from the engine now. I am not talking idle, but from 1500 rpm and up, it is very, very smooth. I think I may have had one of my cylinders with a bit much flashing or other stuff from the casting process in one or more transfer ports, which would have made the cylinders not run the same. That, and more, has been rectified with Xipp's work, and my engine is an absolute keeper now.
