You may not be getting enough pressure to the tank
Do you have one of those rubber exhaust deflectors on the end of the muffler? If you do, remove it and recheck the nose high test. I had a Fox 50 that when pointed upwards, would always die. It wasn't too lean either. I removed the rubber extension and the problem was solved. My guess, is that the rubber xtension decreased the muffler pressure and therefore the push of fuel to the carb.
