Fun World 3d ARF
I was hoping to hear that World Models builds a good quality ARF. The FW3D looks like it will be a great plane. It is really hard to resist a good quality ARF. I also agree it looks more like a 3D-Freedom (which is apparently what attracted me to it).
I haven’t even flown my 3D Freedom yet and would you believe it - I called the number and spoke to the US distributor. What the heck is wrong with me - how could I possibly explain this to (or hide this from) the wife. Anyway, they are expecting the first shipment around the end of November. I did not attempt to buy one. My current position is that I will not even consider buying a FW3D unless something bad happens to my 3D Freedom.
While it is not mentioned in the RCM ad, you do have to be prepared to spend some money on servos for a plane this size . I doubt that standard servos are going to be adequate for any of the control surfaces. In this respect, I would expect to spend at least $280 on servos.
For example 6 Hitect 545s~$180 - 5-pole relatively high torque servos for the ailerons, flaps and elevators (good centering is a plus especially with dual servos on the wing halves and elevator halves). Then a nice high torque (e.g., Hitec 945) coreless servo on the rudder~$85 - 120 oz-in should be enough. Then a standard servo for throttle ~ $15. Add to that the cost of nice 4 stroke 150 or 180 as Volfy suggests and this plane will cost a just over $1000 when completed. I guess that is not too bad - considering what you are getting.
Note: rcflier_gi is correct, the pic I posted above is the GP Extra 300S not a Cap 232 - somebody has a good eye. Aside from the cowl which does not show well in that particular pic, I have trouble telling the difference between the various scale aerobats.
