Here is an interesting plane the “Fun World 3D”- I know nothing about the company - I just saw the two page ad in this months RCM. It has pretty large wings with flaps - it uses two servos per wing half, three servos in the tail and one servo for throttle. $249.00 for a 120 size ARF fun fly ... hmmm. Looks like the wing loading would be about 15 oz/sqft. This plane should be a blast to fly. I don't work for this company - I just thought the plane looked nice.
Specs:
Wing Span: 70.5 in / 1790 mm
Wing Area: 1392 sq in / 89.8 sq dm
Flying Weight: 9.5 lb / 4300 g
Fuselage Length: 70.0 in / 1780 mm
Radio Required: 8 channels, 8 servos
see: http://www.theworldmodels.com/funworld3d.htm

edit: I'm not even sure you can buy one of these yet - the RCM ad has a phone number to call ...(925) 371-0922 - I did not call.

It looks like the Somethin' Extra to me. Then again, don't they all sort of look alike? Kudos to WM for being the first to offer a 120 size 3D funfly ARF, after many have expressed interest in just such an animal.

I agree with Volfy. See any resemblance?
REGULAR

LARGE

So I guess the Fun World would be SUPER SIZED from the specs. Need something more original, I think I'll wait for the Morris BalsaNova 120 ARF...

Volfy and f2racer are certainly correct. But …I think there are a limited number of combinations here. The Fun World 3D has a rather generic mid-wing box fuse (with a canopy) and a fun fly wing. Given that rather generic combination how different can all these planes be? Other than a uniquely shaped fuse (e.g., Balsa Nova) what can companies do to make their planes look different. I think the answer is - not much. Perhaps they can vary the configuration of the tail a bit. Then you’re down to cosmetic things - cowl shape - covering scheme.
I always liked the Sig Somethin’ Extra - I just wanted a larger plane. At the time the 3D Freedom came out, it appeared somewhat uniquely positioned (at least to me) ... a relatively light weight 90-120 mid-wing fuse, with a canopy and a fun fly wing. I actually bought one I liked it so much - should be flying in a few weeks. I like the kit a lot but these things take considerable time, effort and expense to build.
Now comes the Fun World 3D - a nice looking ARF for $249 in the same basic category. Perhaps they will even discount a bit in the future. Seems like it could be a pretty nice deal. If you want this type of plane and you want to be at the field in a week or two … you can’t beat an ARF. I’m not seeing a problem. I’m not seeing a problem at all.
At the risk of being annoying …attached is a pic of an (edit) Extra 300S. It has a rather generic mid wing box fuse with a canopy (the cowl is a bit different but you can’t see it too well from this angle). If you remove the extra's wing and replace it with a fun-fly type of wing what do you get ? … I think we all know the answer ... the Sig Somethin’ Extra, the 3D Freedom, the Fun World 3D ...
Again, I don’t work for any of these companies. I just like this type of plane. Seems like a reasonable step up from 40 size before considering a larger (30% and up) and much more expensive plane.
edit: Even the GP U-Can-Do 3D seems to be a combination of known elements to me: a fuse from a pattern plane and some form of fun fly wing.

Well, if you squint hard enough, all conventional monoplanes start to look alike.
The 3D Freedom looks very good. Too bad, it's a kit. As easy as it looks to build, nowadays I lack the time even to assemble ARFs. The H9 1/4 CAP 232 I bought last year is still sitting in my study NIB. I'm also enjoying building the 4*60, but this thing, which takes some folks one weekend to build, is taking me forever. Having a 6-1/2mo. old will do that to ya.
I've had several WM ARFs and have been very impressed with them. IMHO the Fun World 3D's aluminum tube joiner is a better way to go. My Super Stunt 60 has the same joiner and it's just great. I kinda wish the FW3D has the same removable tail like the Super Stunt 60 and Super Sports Sr, but I guess keeping the weigh to a minimum is top priority for the FW3D.
From my experience with WM's engine recommendations, they tend to aim low. I'd sat this bird will probably fly much better with a 150 or 180 4stroke, or a 120 2stroke.

I was hoping to hear that World Models builds a good quality ARF. The FW3D looks like it will be a great plane. It is really hard to resist a good quality ARF. I also agree it looks more like a 3D-Freedom (which is apparently what attracted me to it).
I haven’t even flown my 3D Freedom yet and would you believe it - I called the number and spoke to the US distributor. What the heck is wrong with me - how could I possibly explain this to (or hide this from) the wife. Anyway, they are expecting the first shipment around the end of November. I did not attempt to buy one. My current position is that I will not even consider buying a FW3D unless something bad happens to my 3D Freedom.
While it is not mentioned in the RCM ad, you do have to be prepared to spend some money on servos for a plane this size . I doubt that standard servos are going to be adequate for any of the control surfaces. In this respect, I would expect to spend at least $280 on servos.
For example 6 Hitect 545s~$180 - 5-pole relatively high torque servos for the ailerons, flaps and elevators (good centering is a plus especially with dual servos on the wing halves and elevator halves). Then a nice high torque (e.g., Hitec 945) coreless servo on the rudder~$85 - 120 oz-in should be enough. Then a standard servo for throttle ~ $15. Add to that the cost of nice 4 stroke 150 or 180 as Volfy suggests and this plane will cost a just over $1000 when completed. I guess that is not too bad - considering what you are getting.
Note: rcflier_gi is correct, the pic I posted above is the GP Extra 300S not a Cap 232 - somebody has a good eye. Aside from the cowl which does not show well in that particular pic, I have trouble telling the difference between the various scale aerobats.

I think if either of these planes, the AKM 3D freedom or the World Models Fun World 3D plane stays in the 9 to 10 lb range a 1.20FS would be plenty. A 1.50 or 1.80 on a 9 to 10lb plane is excess IMO.
My H9 USTIK 1.20 weighs 11.5 lb and flies very well with my OS 1.20FS. I plan on putting that engine in the 3D Freedom, so even at 10 lb there should be power to spare.
I picked up 5 near new Hitec 945MGs for $125 shipped here on RCU which I plan on using in this plane. So deals are out there to save you $$$.

rcflier_gi, that's $400 worth of servos for $125 - good for you. I would buy as many as I could at that price (I'll bet it costs almost $25 just to make a 945 servo). I don't get deals like that. I typically get the "$5 off of list price" deal or something along those lines - at best.
I'm glad to see your comments on the 120FS engine for this type of plane. I got the Saito FA-120 for my 3D-Freedom. I then was stricken with buyers remorse when I saw that the FA-150 and FA-180 are very similar in weight and not too much more in cost.

I emailed WM and said when and how much. They replied around Christmas for $250. I wish they would do this in an ARC. I'm not crazy about the covering - although, it is different.........or odd.

I want one. There ... I said it (sigh). Given everything I purchased in the last year buying one would be totally indefensible. I'm going to do my best to not buy one ... but I want one.
And yeah, the covering is a bit odd. I can (obviously) live with that. Looks like it has good contrast between the top and bottom (as opposed to the UltraStick 60 - which is like flying an invisible plane).
I have the sneaking suspicion there will be a few other larger size "fun fly" ARFs coming soon. Crap ... I'm going to want them too ...
I really really want a Morris Giant Su-do-Khoi I just figured that building one would be too difficult. I think I got to build a few more planes first.
