Default RE: Four Star 60 - What engine?

Mike,

I fly a 4*60 (among others) and I have an OS 61 FX on the front. I have been in this hobby for more years than I want to admit and have instructed many students -- and with that I will tell you that a good 60 is plenty of power on this plane unless you want to do 3D kind of stuff. You have two good engines and unless you have to meet a tough budget I would recommend that you keep both of them. My flying partner has a Saito 91 on his 4*60 and I have to admit that the four stroke just seems to be made for this airplane - I would give his power plant a better rating than mine but it is not just power it is smootness. The 4*60 is not about wild manuevers it is about being smooth and the 4 stroke is made for that. I would recommend that you use the Enya and keep the ST for your next dream ship.

Something to keep in mind is that the bigger the airplane the slower it appears to be flying. It is a human brain thing and not an airplane thing. The next time you see a 747 or a C5 overhead and it appears to be just barely moving believe me it is moving just as fast if not faster than the 727 in front of it. One last thought is than ST is, for some unknown reason, undervalued - you have a very good engine.
