I've seen a few O.S. CV engines get up to 6 gallon, but that has a nickel sleeve. ABC (chrome sleeve) engines can go 8-10 gallons. However it is possible to toast any engine in one gallon if you run it too lean, too often.

If you at least respect the engine even just a little, you shouldn't have any trouble getting more than 3 gallons.
