Hi all,
I'm thinking of buying a nitri truck with a O.S. .12 cv motor and was wondering how many gallons of fuel I should be able to run thru it before they need to be rebuilt. I was told at a local hobby shop you'll only get about 2-4 gallons before you need a rebuilt, and that made me a little leary on buying one.
Sure appreciate your inputs on this.

Well, from what I've seen, if the engine is broken in correctly, and taken care of, i.e. after run oil, not over heated, about 6-8 gallons isn't rare. So after about 8 gallons, for an OS .12 cv, you spend 27 dollars on the piston and sleeve from duratrax, tapered chrome plated, and you're back in business with a brand new engine... almost

I should point out that after run oil is optional. It depends allot on what fuel you use. O'Donnell and Trinity Monster fuel do just fine with no after run oil. All fuel is not created equal, and some fuels will cause the inside of your engine to rust after sitting a week. Then again, it will not hurt to use it if you just want that "just in case" senario.
As tator said, if you break in your engine correctly, and depending on if it's a race or play engine, 6 to 12 gallons are probably the average.
I've had them wear out after 1/2 gallon "defective piston", and i actully got over 20 gallons thru an OFNA P4 before the rod was wore to much to idle and tune. The piston and sleeve still had life in it.

I've seen a few O.S. CV engines get up to 6 gallon, but that has a nickel sleeve. ABC (chrome sleeve) engines can go 8-10 gallons. However it is possible to toast any engine in one gallon if you run it too lean, too often.
If you at least respect the engine even just a little, you shouldn't have any trouble getting more than 3 gallons.

My .15 cv-r i put 2 gallons thru just last weekend... still has full compression... this is the first 2 gallons of it's life after rebuild, only had about 1/4 of a gallon run thru it before it needed rebuild, overheating is a *****, TIP: if you break off the exhaust header, don't keep running it, 420F is TOO hot

yeah, it pretty well toasted it in under 3 minutes of running, i figured that it would just be louder, maybe lose some power, didn't realize that would happen... I'll take some pictures of my warped black piston / cylinder and post them in the gallery

That really is extreme!!!
Aslong as ure not pushing ure engine(not to lean) its easy to get a good life out of it. New piston and liner isnt to bad n e way!!
I thought it was cool running my car without the muffler!!! never again!!!

I can deal with that!
